Hiya Otis love from Frankenbryan I first came across this band during a series of Sunday shows at a House venue called The Lair ( formerly The Elks House ) They were being put on by local musician Clarke Howell for a project called VHShit. At the time I saw the band it was just Otis and Trish. Guitar, vocals, and drums only. The sound was pretty horrible being in a basement and using an ancient sound system. There was an energy there. Something tangible and real. Songs poured forth drenched in fuzz and distortion. Pure Energy I had first met Otis at Treefort where he offered to be a stage manager for a venue I was set to run. He later backed out saying he had a musical project. This was it. A few weeks after the house shows I received copies of these recordings. The first track released was How’s Your Family Life? It has a swirling sound of fuzz and distortion to it. The drums keep it moving and pounding completely. A driving force through the song. Otis provides a lyrical mournful lament to his songs like a modern day singing cowboy. The album has echoes of Built to Spill to it also. Given Doug Martsch had a hand in the recordings it’s not surprising. Their sound was rounded out with the addition of Chris and Elijah to the band. They brought a much more robust and complete feel to the band. Using similar vocal treatments. Otis’ voice has ethereal element to it. Ghostly and haunting. Otis and company have been able to use that to their advantage and tour with Built to Spill. This album gives you a real feel for the Boise sound and the creativity of that town.
